Healthcare in Cyprus

European Quality and Care for Your Health

Cyprus is renowned for its high standard of healthcare and well-developed medical system.
Local hospitals and clinics are equipped with modern technology, while doctors regularly undergo professional training in leading medical centers across Europe — the UK, Germany, and Greece.
Medical services in Cyprus are available through both public and private institutions and fully comply with European Union standards.

Public and Private Healthcare

Cyprus has a two-tier healthcare system:

• Public hospitals and clinics — operate under the National Health System (GESY).
• Private clinics and medical centers — provide extended services, fast consultations, and internationally trained specialists.

Public hospitals are located in all major cities — Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Nicosia, and Ayia Napa.
They include departments of emergency care, surgery, internal medicine, maternity, and diagnostics.

Highly Qualified Doctors

Most Cypriot doctors hold European or UK medical degrees and have extensive international experience.
They speak English fluently, and many also speak Russian and German, making treatment on the island convenient and accessible for foreign residents and tourists.

Medical Insurance

Every Cyprus resident can choose between two main healthcare options:

1. Public Health Insurance (GESY) — available to citizens and permanent residents.
It covers essential services such as doctor consultations, laboratory tests, treatments, and hospital care.

2. Private Health Insurance — ideal for expatriates and those who want broader coverage, including dental care, elective surgeries, treatment in private clinics, and priority appointments.

Private insurance plans start from approximately €300–€600 per year, depending on age and selected coverage.

Emergency Services and Pharmacies

In emergencies, you can contact any Emergency Department by dialing 112 — the universal European emergency number.
Emergency services operate 24/7 and assist both residents and tourists.

Pharmacies are located in every district and are open Monday to Saturday, with on-duty pharmacies available 24 hours a day.
Most pharmacy staff speak English and Russian.

Leading Private Medical Centers

Cyprus offers a wide range of premium private clinics, known for exceptional patient care and advanced diagnostics:

• Ygia Polyclinic (Limassol)
• American Medical Center (Nicosia)
• Blue Cross Medical Center (Larnaca)
• St. George’s Clinic (Paphos)

These centers are recognized for their high-quality healthcare, professional staff, and comfortable patient facilities.

Family and Pediatric Care

Family doctors and pediatricians in Cyprus are known for their professionalism and personalized approach.
Many private clinics offer family healthcare packages that include regular check-ups, vaccinations, and preventive care.
